What your team will learn
Upon course completion, employees will gain a full and clear understanding of:
- What digital accessibility means, and why it now sits with HR as much as with IT or web teams
- The difference between the anticipatory duty on service providers and the employer's own duty to make reasonable adjustments
- How to run a recruitment process, job adverts, application forms, assessments and interviews, that does not quietly exclude disabled candidates
- How to spot and fix common accessibility barriers in HR systems and documents, from intranets to payslips
- How to handle a reasonable adjustment request as a normal, well-run part of employment
- How to keep pace as accessibility standards evolve, without waiting for the law to force a change
Who it is for
Written for hr. No technical background is needed, and nothing in it assumes a previous course.
This course from Blocknorth shows HR, recruitment and people-team professionals how to make recruitment, HR systems and everyday employment practice accessible to everyone. You will learn to spot and fix common digital accessibility barriers, and handle reasonable adjustments as a routine, well-run part of employment.
Course contents
4 units. Each ends with a 10-question quiz; 8 correct unlocks the next unit.
Why This Matters for HR and People Teams
- What digital accessibility actually means, in plain English, and the POUR principles behind it
- The Equality Act 2010's two separate duties: the anticipatory service-provider duty and the employer's reasonable-adjustments duty
- WCAG in plain English: versions, levels, and Level AA as the practical benchmark
- The European Accessibility Act, EN 301 549 and the presumption of conformity, stated precisely and without overclaiming
- UK public sector bodies and the stricter WCAG 2.2 AA standard already in force under PSBAR
Accessible Recruitment
- Where accessibility barriers commonly appear across the recruitment journey
- Writing and publishing job adverts that work for assistive technology
- Building application forms that do not quietly exclude disabled candidates
- CAPTCHAs, timed tests and other easily overlooked barriers, and how to avoid them
- Accessible assessments, interviews and applicant tracking systems
Accessible HR Systems and Documents
- The everyday HR documents and systems that need to work for every colleague
- Accessible document basics: headings, alt text, reading order and structure
- Colour, contrast and accessible payslips and pay-related communications
- The HR intranet, self-service portal, video content and accessible meetings
- Where a stricter public sector standard applies directly to internal systems too
Reasonable Adjustments and Building It Into the Workflow
- What "reasonable" actually means when adjusting for a specific employee
- Common digital reasonable adjustments, and how to approach the conversation well
- Briefing IT and suppliers so an adjustment can actually be delivered
- Keeping pace as accessibility standards evolve, without waiting to be told
- Your own practical, HR-specific action plan
