SCORM checker

Our SCORM checker tests a SCORM package in your browser before you upload it to your LMS. Nothing is uploaded anywhere, there is no account, and the check runs entirely on your own device.

How the SCORM checker works

Drop your SCORM zip file below, or choose it from your computer. The check runs in your browser using JavaScript and looks for the same structural problems that stop a package launching in an LMS; the file itself never leaves your device and is never sent to us or anyone else.

Packages up to 500MB are supported.

What it checks

  • Manifest at the root of the zip. Fix if failed: “Your zip file needs an imsmanifest.xml file at the top level, not inside a subfolder.”
  • Manifest is well-formed XML. Fix if failed: “Your imsmanifest.xml file is not well-formed XML. Open it in a text or XML editor and look for an unclosed tag or a stray character.”
  • SCORM 1.2 schema declared. Fix if failed: “Your manifest does not declare the SCORM 1.2 schema. Check the schemaversion element matches the standard your course was built to.”
  • Launch file named in the manifest exists. Fix if failed: “The manifest names a launch file that isn’t in your zip. Check the file name and path match exactly, including capitalisation.”
  • Every file listed in the manifest exists. Fix if failed: “One or more files listed in your manifest are missing from the zip. Check nothing was left out when the package was zipped.”

What the result means

If every check passes: “No problems found by these checks. This checks your package’s structure, not how it behaves in your LMS.” If a check fails, the checker names the specific problem and shows the fix above, so you can correct it and check again. The checker never says “valid” or “guaranteed to work”: passing these checks means the package’s structure is sound, not that every feature will behave correctly inside your specific LMS.

Why this exists

Every course we sell is SCORM 1.2, and we wanted a free SCORM validator that lets LMS administrators test SCORM package structure before uploading it, whoever built it. If you are buying e-learning content and want to understand SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004 and xAPI before you choose, read our SCORM buyer’s guide. Every course in our own library is SCORM 1.2 and runs in any LMS that supports it; browse our full course catalogue.

Tool strings (round 2)

Tool strings (round 3, added 2026-09-25 from the live-check fixes)

Taken verbatim from the strings live on production on 25 September 2026, so a re-extract keeps them.

Frequently asked questions

Is my SCORM package uploaded anywhere when I use this checker?

No. The check runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your file stays on your own device and is never sent to us or anyone else.

Does passing this SCORM checker mean my course will work in my LMS?

Not on its own. It checks your package's structure: the manifest, the schema, and that every file it names actually exists. It does not test how the course behaves once it is running inside your specific LMS.

Is this SCORM test limited to SCORM 1.2?

Yes. This SCORM test checks for the SCORM 1.2 schema declaration, a well-formed manifest at the root of the zip, and confirms that the launch file and every listed file actually exist in the package.
