AI Governance for IT & Data Teams
AI governance for IT and data teams means the technical side: documentation, data provenance, vendor due diligence, production monitoring and security. This practical course, an industry companion to AI Governance for Business 101, covers the EU AI Act's risk tiers and current timeline, plus the frameworks and habits that turn governance into working practice. Four short units, no legal background needed.
- Easy-to-follow course
- 4 quizzes at 80% in every course
- Narration and captions on every screen
- Written and fact-checked in 2026
Watch the introduction, then see the interactions your learners will use.
One licence for your LMS, 12 months, for the learners you buy for, delivered as one SCORM package. Priced per learner, with volume discounts.
What your team will learn
Upon course completion, employees will gain a full and clear understanding of:
- How to recognise the technical failure modes ungoverned AI produces, and the principles that prevent them
- How to map responsible AI principles onto practices already used in engineering: testing, ownership, review gates and security
- How the EU AI Act's risk tiers and current timeline apply to systems they build or deploy
- How to produce the technical documentation, data provenance records and vendor due diligence a governance programme requires
- How to monitor AI systems in production, apply AI-specific security controls, and respond to an incident
- How to act as the technical bridge between legal or compliance requirements and how systems actually behave
Who it is for
Written for it. No technical background is needed, and nothing in it assumes a previous course.
This course from Blocknorth gives IT, data and engineering professionals a clear, practical understanding of AI governance from the technical side: model documentation, data provenance, vendor due diligence, production monitoring and security. Built for anyone who builds, deploys or maintains systems that use AI, not for AI specialists or governance experts.
Course contents
4 units. Each ends with a 10-question quiz; 8 correct unlocks the next unit.
Understanding AI Governance
- Why AI governance is decided as much in code and data pipelines as in policy documents
- Real technical failure modes: biased training data, undetected model drift, missing documentation
- The six principles of responsible AI, mapped onto practices IT and data teams already use
- Why accountability needs a named owner, and why human oversight must be real, not a rubber stamp
The Rules and Frameworks
- The EU AI Act's risk tiers, and what "high risk" means for a system you build or deploy
- The current timeline in precise terms, including the Digital Omnibus deferrals and what was not delayed
- The UK's non-statutory, principles-based approach, and the fragmented US picture
- The NIST AI Risk Management Framework and ISO/IEC 42001, as structures you can map real processes to
AI Governance in Practice
- Model documentation and the technical file, and data governance and provenance tracking
- Technical due diligence when procuring a third-party AI tool or API
- Monitoring a model in production for drift and bias, not just at launch
- Security controls specific to AI, including prompt injection and data leakage, and incident response
Roles, Risk and a Responsible AI Culture
- IT and data's place as the technical bridge between legal or compliance requirements and system behaviour
- Working with compliance rather than around it, and translating a vague requirement into a technical spec
- Building AI literacy across engineering teams, and owning a technical AI inventory
- Tackling shadow AI, raising concerns early, and keeping pace as the timeline and technology evolve

See pricing →Questions buyers ask
Will it run in our LMS?
Yes, if your LMS supports SCORM 1.2, which almost every LMS does. You upload one zip file, assign it, and completions and scores report back automatically. We confirm compatibility for your platform before you buy, and the free sample package lets you test it in place.
Can we try it before we buy?
Yes. Ask for the free sample package and you will have Unit 1 of a foundation course as a real SCORM 1.2 file, so you can check it runs in your own LMS. Request it with the form below and you will have it within 1 working day.
What do we receive?
The SCORM package, a one-page quick-start for your LMS administrator, the course listing sheet for your catalogue, and preview images. Updates to the course during your licence are supplied at no charge.
How does a licence work?
You licence the course for the learners you buy for, for 12 months, on your own LMS, and you receive one SCORM package. Pricing is per learner with volume discounts as your numbers grow, and we licence from ten learners upwards.
